Celebrations are still celebrated, but this time, with extra caution.
The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely brought the whole world to a shock as it has altered the normal into something it is not used to. Well, things like this might already happened years ago in other generations, yet this is a new set of individuals who are unfamiliar with the pandemic setting. Everything people do nowadays is modified because obviously, anyone can be in danger anytime.
Due to the health risks all around, the most festive and most important occasions remembered yearly have also been affected. Among those are birthdays. Yes, everyday all over the globe, there is someone celebrating his/her natal day. It is a significant day that comes once a year and is really made merry. During the pandemic, birthdays are totally different, and they are not the typical ones you know. Instead, they have been actually tagged as “quarantine birthdays”.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic has done a lot of changes to many lifestyles and events, there’s no reason to forget that it’s still a ‘happy’ birthday no matter what. As it is a wonderful day to be thankful for the life you have received, you can still make it memorable while being secure and healthy.
Now, how do you safely celebrate birthdays amidst this life-threatening pandemic? Here’s a friendly list to check out!
1 – STAY AT HOME
This is absolutely one of the most trending sentences you have seen, heard and said since the pandemic started. Stay at home.
You probably miss the time when you were in a beach resort or in a buffet restaurant to celebrate your birthday last year. Maybe your workmate invited you to an amusement park party for his birthday 2 years ago. And you just can’t help but wish that you were there again this year. The thing is it is best to stay inside the house.
Most of the places outside where birthdays are usually spent are temporarily closed right now because of the pandemic. Meanwhile, those who are operating are doing so limitedly. Safety protocols are hampering people to fully talk to each other and take good photos, but no doubt, they are all strictly essential.
Celebrating birthdays at home was not a typical thing for many families before the pandemic happened. Lots of people prefer doing so somewhere else. Now, it’s the safest place to be with the people you love while you make it a joyful day. The outdoors are still uncertain and unsafe, but indoors, you can be freer though, of course, protocols must still be observed.
2 – NEARBY FAMILY OR NO GUESTS AT ALL
Everyone knows how it’s uniquely better to have your beloved relatives and friends to be present on your birthday. In this pandemic, though it’s sad, being understanding and considerate is very important.
If you are the birthday celebrator or someone in your own household, choose not to invite guests. This is also highly advised by health professionals and local governments. As you are aware, the more people you get exposed to, the higher the chances of getting infected by the virus.
On the other hand, depending on your own decision, you may invite nearby family members or neighbors to your house for a mini get together with food. They could be people from the house beside yours or from the next street. Of course, when you choose to do this, don’t forget that it’s your accountability.
3 – COOK HOMEMADE FOOD
Instead of ordering outside, cook homemade food. You can rest assured that your chows are made clean and kept protected from possible sources of any virus. When you do this, indeed, you yourself have to maintain sanitation and follow proper protocols even when cooking in your own kitchen. Preparing delicious food must come with ensuring that everyone who will eat will be safe too.
4 – BAKE YOUR CAKE
Aside from the standard cakes available in malls, there are so many personally owned baking shops that have opened since the pandemic. Ordering a cake from one of these stores is as easy as 1, 2, 3 because of all the virtual connections present. Be different, and bake your own cake!
You just need a sufficient amount of cake flour, flavoring and all the other ingredients of the cake you want to make. Of course, you need the skills and the equipment to do so. Though it will take you quite a lot of time, especially when you initially don’t bake, it would be a fulfilling achievement.
5 – PREPARE A FUN PROGRAMME INDOORS
Instead of just staring at your mobile gadgets on a special day, why not enjoy fun indoor games? Prepare a programme for everyone at home to make great memories with! When you do this, see to it that there would be no item on the list which can put your health to harm. Practice social distancing even indoors.
6 – VIRTUAL CELEBRATION WITH FRIENDS
If only the days are normal, surely, even friends coming from the south will go to the north and vice versa just to celebrate with you! While you can’t do that again just yet, a virtual celebration with chums is the new normal. It’s a productive time to explore how you can still connect with each other and have a meaningful birthday party despite being miles away from each other!
7 – DECORATE YOUR HOUSE
Many people enjoy this nowadays: decorating the house for birthdays. Squeeze out those creative juices to make the seemingly simple stay-at-home celebration more vibrant! You can buy those celebration banners, balloons, party hats and more, or do them yourself!
SAFE QUARANTINE BIRTHDAY
Many say that the pandemic is not a time for laughs and good stuff, but isn’t that too much? The world has been stuck in the unending need of face masks and sanitizers. Frontliners are doing their best to treat the sick and eventually stop the spread of the virus. Families and other loved ones have been away from each other for a really long time already. Aren’t these and more reasons saddening enough for everyone to still be gloomy even on birthdays?!
You can celebrate your birthday even in the middle of this crisis. Surprises can be made for people dear to you. You can send gifts and receive presents in various ways. Come on, humans are too creative and too thoughtful to forget how special days must be celebrated.
What’s not to ignore is safety. You may have fun, eat a lot, laugh together and even play games, but all these must be done safely. It is a responsibility to bear with high regard. You don’t want it to be someone’s last birthday, do you? So make sure you are healthy, so you can certainly be happy on that birthday.
Truly, it’s a tough stormy time, but you can still find something good even when it’s raining hard. After all, quarantine birthdays are still birthdays.
